I live alone and use my dishwasher every 4 days. I use 4 dishes for the dogs per day so that helps fill it up. Being alone I downsized to 855 sq ft. Now I don’t have any space that I don’t use.

I have no idea how much electricity cost until I see dad's bill. Over $200. Thought that was the norm until he complained because it's only a small 2 bedrooms.

That is expensive. As a comparison, I have a 2200 sf house, and my last electric bill was $190. Highest in the past year was $250, but that was for end of Dec, beginning of January when we had a cold snap (electric heat pump).

Most of the summer my electric bill is about $120/month.

When looking at the comps my electric company includes with my bill, I tend to be just a bit below average in electric consumption. I used to be a fair bit above average. I fixed that by replacing my older unit with anefficient heat pump, got rid of the 2nd refrigerator, and swapped CFL lights for LED.

Today was the first really warm, sunny day here, so I went on a hike with some friends. On the way back, we passed "the motorcycle club"; you know, those folks who, by the dozens, just ride around aimlessly on their bikes in nice weather...

Likewise, the boaters who run up and down the nearby river all day (drinking and socializing) as a form of recreation are also at it again this year.

Yes, I was driving my car, but it was to a destination; not "entertainment" in itself.

I'm telling you, there's no stopping people from burning gas no matter how high it goes!

I'm not sure I'm against those people spending money in the ways you've described. If it provides them a quality of life that they can afford to be happy and pay all of their bills and save for the future... who am I to tell them they are wrong?

You had a destination. So did they. Just not yours.
Ever tried to tow a skier behind a boat while you paddle?

Motorized recreationalists can't win. If one person isn't calling them out for wasting money on gas, someone else is calling them out for polluting the soundwaves, the water, or contributing to climate change! (which of course they are). Going through life being resentful or sanctimonious will only get you so far.

If the dishwasher isn't full I grab any knick knacks or other things I can fill the dishwasher with for cleaning.

I always run full loads in the washer.

Our electricity bill hasn't gone up at all this year, but our propane is higher, we hardly ever run the heater though, the pellet stove heats the main area (great room), and I close off the doors to rooms we are not using, and I keep the master bedroom as cold as possible because I like it cold when I sleep.

In the winter I use the stove more, because it also heats the house.

Here's a Consumer Report sharing that some small refrigerators use the same electricity as larger ones.

The new dishwasher SO dragged home against my wishes is great! Yes, I offered to kiss his feet but he is concerned about his toes. No more rinsing and handwashing. Crystal and dirty pots run in the same cycle. Yes, all sorts of odds and ends end up in it as well. It runs daily. At first I checked on it because it is so quiet. A lot less water used!
