I have an aunt and a lot of stories but zero confirmation.
Is there some special way that these special events are registered or recorded?

Way way back in the day, I knew a man who had duel citizenship in England and the USA. His mother was English and coming from England, but the destination was USA, and he was born at sea.

Any idea the name of the ship your aunt was on? If you knew the name of the ship, maybe there would be a passenger log?

You don't say what year, or what country, the birth is thought to be in. However currently such at birth for a US citizen can be registered with the nearest US Embassy.

Other countries should have a similar process.

Probably depends entirely on the time period, ownership of the ship, country of arrival, survival of records, etc

I have a 2nd great grandaunt born and died at sea - an Italian family on a British ship headed for the US in 1880. Birth and death records can be found in a British collection: The National Archives of the UK, Registers of Births at Sea of British Nationals. She was also recorded on the ship's passenger list.

This is getting us closer. Does that sort of register exist for German ships? I'll find out.

I have the (German) ship name, 1882 arrival date in NYC and a poorly written passenger list.
The names/ages for the OTHERS in the family group are also a bit garbled ...
but there is no mention of an infant among them (that I can see).

When I sign on for EU records access I'll add this to the growing list of Q's.
