My sister is married to a Colonel, multiple moves including international and I can't remember a single story of anything broken! She moved as recently as last month.

45K in damage seems extreme......I bet you could furnish a whole 4 bedroom house for less than 45K. So I understand heirlooms/valuables can add up but to have it all broken seems like a long shot.

I PCS'd a few times and always moved myself for 2 reasons:

1. if the military is going to pay someone to move MY stuff, it may as well be ME
2. no one is going to take care of my stuff as good as I will

Don’t believe everything you read. Today unfortunately creative writers are inspired to write “what if” articles just to stir things up.

yea - crazy story.

She said you don't have a choice about moving. Sure you do. Turn down the assignment and see your way out of the military.

First off: does this person know you're reposting their story elsewhere?

TL;DR, but did they also have outside insurance to cover the move? How did damage to their personal items translate into making their home unliveable?

this was the reason she gave that made the new rental unliveable

"the rat, mice and roach droppings that were shaken out of unpacked boxes cover the floors. Shards of antique cut crystal and china do the same. The gorgeous home we rented for the short 18 months before we were ordered to move again, is not safe to live in at this point."

And if it is a facebook post, probably shared all over the world already.

So they don't own a vacuum cleaner?

And if it is a Facebook post, it's possible their Facebook is private to only friends and family. Either way, just because something CAN be shared, doesn't mean it should. Even something posted on one forum may be meant only for that forum. Is it okay if everything you email to someone gets forwarded to other people? Everything you say in public is repeated to others, or recorded and played for other people?

“the only one known to match Thomas Jefferson's clock that you can know see at Monticello,”

I would think that a professional writer would know the difference between now and know.

That would or should have been taken with them.

This is why, when I PCSd from WA state to TX, husband and I sold a lot of our furniture, knowing we would replace items. Used 26 foot Uhaul, I drove, he drove truck with his car on a trailer.

Not one thing broken....financially a great decision.
