I am moving between the large coastal cities (Houston TX to Tampa FL) and have relatively small amount of belongings (1/4 of standard 20ft shipping container). Actually my stuff is already packed. Don't need a large truck/van. It can fit in a regular F150 truck easily. But I don't have a truck, only sedan.

I am trying to make it most cost effective without overpaying for what I don't need.

So far I received ridiculous offers from regular moving companies. It doesn't make sense.
Also both UPS and FedEx shipping turned out to be quite pricey for this amount of luggage.

Lately I was wondering if ocean shipping is possible? Has anyone ever tried that?

In general, ocean transportation is the most economically efficient. But I am not sure if there are such services for private individuals and small loads. Haven't found anything on the Internet yet.
Please let me know if you have tried that before.
Thanks in advance!

Have you considered any of the "You Pack/We Drive" shippers ?

See https://www.moving.com/tips/the-best...ner-companies/ for info

Also there is the Jones Act to consider re ocean shipping between 2 US ports, if Tampa and Houston even have port facilities.

Forget it. Ocean shipping is cheaper only when compared to the available alternatives for that load.

Have you looked into traditional pack shipping such as a single U-Haul UBox or ABF UPack or a small PODS?

Ocean shipping just for that? If the load will fit in an F150 bed, just rent the F150. You can rent pickups from UHaul, Ryder, Enterprise, etc. Not only will the truck haul the load, you can use the same vehicle to deliver it right to the front door! If you ship via marine freight you'd need someone else to complete the delivery on land.

Better and simpler, rent a truck and tow the car behind on a trailer. One move, not three.

Honestly I hate to drive uhaul truck for more than 50 miles. Plus I have higher end car, don't want to take a risk with trailer as I have never done that. I might consider multiple stops along the way with living in different coastal towns for few days. So I would like to ship my belongings in a container and drive my car in vacation mode.

Moving is basically a PITA. No getting around it. Get it over and done with. Save the vacation for another time. K.I.S.S. The more drawn out the move and the more stops you make, the more vulnerable your household goods will be along the way. Have a responsible friend drive either the truck or the car and travel together.
