Haven't really had an issue with the air
Closer to the water you get the better the air becomes. Getting into the hills and mountains away from the ocean air can be a bit heavy. Haven't noticed much about pollution or smog in the air. I am only out here visting right now.
As far as traffic reminds me of where I live. There's a highway that is notoriously backed up can add an hour or 2 to your drive. You also have other options to avoid it similar to out here. The highways here though are so wide and smooth. Seems to be more options carpool lanes with essier access and toll roads that are less congested.
COL is a bit of a shock. Gas is about 30 cents more out here, but diesel cost about the same as where I live. Diesel is actually cheaper than regular gas out here. You still can probably save a few dollars by buying an electric car out here. Also gas tax is less out here.
Income tax is about 3.8 percent lower where we are living. On average looking to make about 1.3 to 2 percent more a year in California.
Property tax appears to be lower in California.
Average is about $6K for property taxes; could spend close to $12K for property under $200K in certain areas of the State. Average house cost is lower where we live about $200K to $250K. Though house values do appear to be on the rise. Also have to add in heat, which can be expensive where we currently live.
Many Coloradans are natives moving back here after leaving for the coast in the 70's and 80's. In 2012, 6% of people moving to CO are from CA. 8% of Californians move to UT, 12% ID, and 19% NV.
Wait, what part of Southern California are you, or the OP, from? That entire state is congested and crowded compared to most of the nation. Southern California also doesn't have great air because of its geography, if posters from an other thread here are to be believed.
Not true at all, most the state is uninhabited as the population is concentrated in certain areas. CA has a lot more empty, wilderness spaces than most states back east. Just look at a population density map.
That's not exclusive to Florida. Places in the southwest US(e.g. AZ, NV etc) get more sunshine than Florida and have a more similar climate (dry heat vs humid) to California. Not to mention the landscape is a lot more similar. Florida is the flattest state in the US while southwestern states have true mountain ranges, deserts and so on. Florida you also have to deal with hurricanes which are only going to get worse with climate change. Let's not also forget a lot of the coastal cities in Florida probably won't be around too much longer with rising ocean levels but that is a whole other discussion lol.

It's amazing. Must be laws out here can't believe how many people are crammed into such am all areas, but it leaves room for a lot of open wilderness. You have access to many trails that can get you lost away from the urban jungle.
Also this amazes me in California. People are smiling. They say hello, they hold doors open, they are polite, and so on. It's been a cultural shock out here. They are not reserved I kind of enjoy that.
