Pittsburgh has the downtown portion of its system as a subway mostly ( I think 2 of the stations are street level). In the 1980s they paved over the trolley tracks all over downtown and dug out a subway line. It also might be the only LRT system in the US to have tunnels underwater, the segment that goes to the north side goes under the Allegheny river. Is there another underwater lrt in the US, I can't think of one. Maybe Baltimore?
