I'm not sure that they took the last part of their methodology very seriously: "We eliminated any place that had more than double the national crime risk, less than 85% of its state’s median household income, or a lack of ethnic diversity."
Some of those places lack ethnic diversity by pretty much anyone's definition: Fishers, Dickinson, Bozeman, and Lone Tree are all 85% to 90% white (2010 census), yet they made the list. Montery Park is about 70% Asian. While some of the others are more diverse to be sure, like Olive Branch or Allen, it makes me think that they only paid lip service to finding diverse places, giving diversity very little weight in their rankings.
Considering that St Louis is vying with Baghdad for the riot capital of the world, I'll take safe, clean, good schools, etc.
That's why St. Louis' population continues to shrink while the metro region still grows, particularly the counties adjacent to St. Louis County. The region itself is fine, but a lot of people want to have some distance from the city. To be fair, most of the city is pretty safe; however, people don't realize this.
Seems more like the best suburban places to raise families. Although a lot of the places listed are pleasant they aren't exactly places I want to live as a single 24 year old professional student.
A lot of people prefer "suburbia" and could care less about being near cultural areas, diverse areas, etc...
I am included in that category. I've always preferred to live away from the main parts of big cities. I enjoy having a yard, privacy, etc...and not being near the "hustle" 24/7

Crime, bad schools, increasing homeless population, high taxes, high COL, aggressive attitudes - big cities aren't all they are cracked up to be.
