I get that, but I'm more interested in net domestic migration (and I guess international immigration to some extent) than rate of natural increase (births v deaths)

Question for the op and sorry if I missed it, do you already own your home out here? If so I’d fight to stay. If not I’m gone. I think we’ll be looking at 1.7m for average home soon. At least in the nice areas

That about 5-7 times the same in CNY. Granted, there are issues with housing everywhere and there are multiple factors to consider, but that offers some perspective.

Yep. And with a family, you’re not gonna squeeze into a 2 br in Santa Ana. Need a decent place

Nope. I own my car, and basic household items.
We rent a little one bedroom apartment right now which is very small, I’ve definitely outgrown it these past few years with the kids getting bigger. However unless I work 7 days a week and burn out I can’t get us anything bigger in Orange County. The going rate is 2900 for a 2 bedroom.

2900 seems low for a 2br. What part of OC? I love it here but I’d consider leaving for the right opportunity. I think you should, given what I’ve read here. Good luck

Why are you staying? What’s the motivation?

I mean if you ever put Dana Point side by side with just about any part of Upstate NY...

There's a reason some places cost a lot more than others. Some places are simply a lot nicer than others and there's nothing wrong with trying to live in a nice place.

Personally, I’ve found NYS to not be a place I’m terribly fond of, but in financial terms you’re definitely better off up here than in OC. If you like the lifestyle and weather, then stay in OC. If not, it’s probably more logical to migrate back to CNY.
