Here in the Charlotte area, in December it gets dark just before 6pm. June, just before 9pm.
We were visiting my parents-in-law in Cape Cod, MA several years ago in mid November, and it was pitch dark at 4:30. It blew my mind, lol. Never had seen that. When I looked at a map that evening, I could see just how much farther east New England is than areas in the southeast. Something I had never thought of or experienced before.

In Phoenix, at the far west end of Mountain Time Zone (should be in Pacific Time geographically), sunset tonight is at 5:20 tonight, generally by 6:15 it is pitch black, and stars out by 6:45
Where is it pitch black by 8:00pm? In Indy the sunset is at around 9:15pm. Gary has it around 8:30pm. It's light out for at least 30 minutes after in each of those cities.
I don't think sunset in the longest days of summer is at 7:30pm anywhere in the country.
I think the closest summer sunset to 7:30pm is in far eastern Arizona (as they opt out of Daylight Savings Time) June sunsets in Phoenix are around 7:40pm, so I'm guessing that in Douglas (in the extreme southeastern corner of the state) that latest annual sunset is about 7:35ish. In locations that observe Daylight Savings Time, many cities on the Gulf Coast like Biloxi, Pascagoula, Mobile, Panama City Florida have pre 8:00pm sunsets for about half the summer (from late July onward). By late August, the sun sets in those places around 7:15pm, a full hour earlier than in places like Grand Rapids, Louisville, and Valentine, Nebraska.
Earliest sunset here in upstate New York about 4:23pm and it's pitch black just before 5pm. Last light in the southwestern sky on clear days during December is about 5:45. In June, the latest sunset is about 8:27pm with last light in the northwestern sky around 9:45pm. Earliest sunrise in mid-June is about 5:13am with dawn breaking around 4:45, while latest sunrise is not during the winter solstice, but in early November at 7:30-7:35am. Before Daylight Savings Time was moved up to March, I can remember a handful of days in mid-late April when the sun would rise before 5:00am and it would start getting light around 4:00am. Recently, I traveled to Dallas Texas and was intrigued that sunset in late November there was 5:25pm. At home, we don't get to that point until the week of Valentine's Day.
Just to add some objectivity to this thread...all areas of the world average out to equal darkness/lightness. It just comes in different doses, depending on your latitude, and by longitude.
To give a simple example, Seattle experiences early sunset from November to January (around 4:30pm on average), but compensates with late sunset from June to August (around 9:30pm on average). These are based on daylight savings time, which is not observed in every part of the US.
Too ******* early. I live in Boston. I go for a run after work (4:30) and it's dark by the time I'm done. There aren't any crossings so it's fine.
