If you are further South, near Big Canoe, there's a restaurant just outside the North gate of Big Canoe along Steve Tate Highway called Home. The food there is very good, great atmosphere, and the bartenders know what they are doing.

They have NC Trout on the menu that is grilled, not fried. It's always excellent.

I was just reading about Chatsworth. It seems like such an idyllic frozen-in-time town. Does anyone know anything about living there?

Agree. Home is my favorite in that area. Sourwood Cafe in the North Station center on Steve Tate not far from Home also good and they also had NC Trout.

We are looking at moving possibly to Cleveland or Gainesville GA within the next year. Can anyone tell us any information on those places? I see that White county schools is ranked pretty decent for a rural area. We've been to both in visiting, but are considering moving to be close to mountains.

I would recommend North Hall between Gainesville and Cleveland. Good schools, still scenic but lots of housing options to choose from, and still close to all the healthcare and shopping in Gainesville.

That's super helpful, thanks! My wife is excited because the hospital in Gainesville looks to be a great option for her. I want the rolling hills and hiking but being close to work (I'm in college administration) is important.

Both of these restaurants are "Family style" where huge quantities of luscious southern cooking (everything from fried chicken to countless fresh vegetables) are brought to your table with limitless refills. I will say that between the two, I prefer Dillard House over the Smith House by a hair. Both definitely take out Southern Charm of Blue Ridge by a mile.
We made a detour from Cherokee, NC to the Dillard House Restaurant on the way back to Huntsville, AL this past weekend. The food and experience was just as good as I remembered from the last time I went there in the 80's.

Nice to see that as much has changed in N GA some things have remained the same.

What are some good ones? I've lived here over 3 years now, and the few Meat & Three restaurants I know of apparently think Mac & Cheese, and corn, are vegetables. Every actual vegetable on the menu is usually fried (e.g., okra and tomatoes); and you never see carrots or broccoli or spinach or fresh tomatoes, let alone asparagus or beets.
Oh, yes, and cole slaw is a vegetable. But it is not the only green vegetable in existence.

Enrico’s and Paris & Co at Crane Creek in Hayesville, Epic Eatery and Copper Door in Hayesville, The Crown in Brasstown - all are good restaurants.
