I get the argument about needing to make 3x over minimum wage, but $20 Hr to afford rent isnt really bad. Most large sunbelt metro's are comparable in this aspect. Although I do agree the minimum wage in GA has long needed to be increased.

I say this out of genuine ignorance, but who is accepting of minimum wage? Even Target now pays $15/hr. Is it past convicts? Or illegal immigrants, or 14 year olds? I can't imagine a business being able to survive by only paying it's employees minimum wage.

Some might, but as soon as there is lower unemployment anyone capable and able will switch jobs.

The problem with these kinds of analyses are that they aggregate things on a statewide level. NY ranks better than Georgia yet in the major population areas unsubsidized housing has to be even more expensive than in Atlanta, even when factoring in higher NY wages.

One of the biggest reasons for wage suppression is Illegal Immigration.

Factor in cost of insurance, groceries, car payments, potential doctor's visits, car insurance, taxes, and then it becomes obvious that it's not so easy.
