Friday’s episode of the WABE-FM 90.1 Atlanta weekly public affairs podcast “Political Breakfast”:

Quote:
A year after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared a pandemic, Georgia is finally seeing signs of spring in more ways than one. The pool of Georgians eligible for a coronavirus vaccine is expanding, case numbers are dropping and so are the numbers of deaths. But the all-out war at the State Capitol over voting bills is only intensifying. And the voice of the man who pushed those efforts—former president Donald Trump—has returned, in yet another recording of him applying pressure to state officials after the November election. WABE political contributor Denis O’Hayer sorts through it all with Republican strategist Brian Robinson and former Atlanta City Council President Cathy Woolard, filling in for Democratic strategist Tharon Johnson on this edition.

Default 40K+ Georgians on probation who don’t need to be

“Think about the 40-something thousand people in our state that should no longer be on probation by our current law, yet are still answering to probation officers, still have to tell a landlord, have to tell a boss, that they’re on probation,” said state Sen. Brian Strickland, R-McDonough, sponsor of Senate Bill 105..."

Default Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan rules out a run for US Senate

In an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday, Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan ruled out a run for the US Senate next year.

Quote:
“My family and I have talked about it and we’re not going to run for the U.S. Senate seat," Duncan said. “We’re going to stay focused on being the lieutenant governor here in Georgia."

Duncan added that he intends to focus on strengthening the Republican party, aiming “to rebuild this party and refocus GOP 2.0."

Default Many Georgians shun masks despite threat from variants

It doesn’t matter if he’s walking into a grocery store, a restaurant, his gym or even a medical office. Joseph Ciotti doesn’t wear a mask.

He knows COVID-19 is out there. He said he contracted it himself at a Fourth of July pool party last year that became a superspreader event but only had a mild case. The experience made the 67-year-old Suwanee retiree all the more convinced that the best way to fend off the virus is by boosting the immune system with vitamin supplements, not by taking a vaccine or wearing a mask..."

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — When salvage crews began cutting apart the capsized Golden Ray, a shipwreck the size of a 70-story office building with 4,200 cars within its cargo decks, in early November they predicted the demolition could be wrapped up by New Year’s Day.

Four months later, the job remains far from finished.

Both ends of the cargo ship have been cut away and carried off by barges in a pair of giant chunks. But roughly three-fourths of the vessel remains beached on its side off St. Simons Island on the Georgia coast, where the South Korean freighter overturned soon after leaving port Sept. 8, 2019.
