Lovely names: Fafa, and Famor. My grandparents were always grandmother and grandfather, but my great-grandparents were called Zada and Buba.

My own kids called my mother Grammy.... so I guess I am just following suit. Their Father is 1/2 Danish and 1/2 French.... sooo following the Danish tradition they called their grandfather(the dane) FAFA which stands for Father's Father. So their grandmother was FAMOR or Father's Mother... only she was french. At the time HER mother was still alive and was the Memere (sp) which is grandmother in French. So they had to come up with a new name... and it was MiMi (MeeMee). To this day, 24 years later...she signs her cards that way and even when she calls me on the phone she says "Hi, It' MiMi.
My oldest grandson first called me googa. My grandkids now call me by my first name. That was their mothers doing (my xdil). My sisters granddaughters called the gradmothers by color. She was green grandma and the other pink grandma.
Did you like googa? It doesn't sound as if you really didn't like having them call you by your first name; I probably wouldn't either.
I've gotten accustomed to my nick, and didn't mind when the big guys decided to make it a family-wide nick-name.

It kind of hurt a little at first when they suddenly stopped calling me googa and started calling me by my first name, but im ok with what ever they are comforable calling me. They are 9 and 5 now so it would sound a little silly having them call me googa.LOL.
I am Nanah....simple as that. I don't like Grammie for myself or grandma. I am in my early 50's and grandma reminds me of my grandmother..personal taste that's all. My mother is Nana.
i called my grandmother nini and my grandfather banca. they say that this is how i ACTUALLY decided/tried to pronounce grandma and grandpa! what? nini is nowhere close to grandma and banca is nowhere close to grandpa.
i am a fine speaker today so no need to worry!
This is the grand-parent forum, and the question is "what do yourgrand-children call you.
But it's always a pleasure to hear from you, nicolepsy.

my 2 little 'grand-girls' call me 'Nimsy' (which is what I asked to be called) and my husband (their step-grandfather) is 'Grampy' -- their other grandparents (who are Aussies) are 'Nana' and 'Pop'. My grandparents on one side were Greek, and I called them the Greek names ('Yayia' and 'Papou') and on the other side, my grandparents were 'Pop' and 'Grandmother'
