Why are you assuming the parent didnt do x? That would imply all kids are the same and that there has never been a responsible parent that tried to raise their kids right instilling discipline and respect at the earliest of ages in which unfortunately for what ever reason the child was just rebellious.

We obviously know neither is the case.

Why bother? You think beating a kid teaches them how to behave...and why they should behave.

I think you are completely wrong.....but hey....you don't have kids...you know everything. Why would I ague with an ignorant wall?

I know this is an old thread, but I have to say I find it funny that the people on this forum are doing the same as the dad. You are focusing on the grandfather hitting the girl instead of her behavior.

Entertaining thread.

I don't disagree with hitting your child as a form of punishment. I also don't think what your daughter was doing is even a big deal. But don't let your father (or anyone) try to parent your daughter man. That's ****ed. Beat his ass. Also don't call your police on your dad lol. He's family. You gotta stick together even if he's a scumbag.

I see no reason not to focus on both. If the OP wants parental advice on dealing with her child's behaviour we are here to give it. They need only ask.

If the OP wants advice on how to deal with the grandparent - the OP has that too. And as I said - if I were in that situation I would realise the man in question committed a crime. And I would act accordingly.
