There's still a tilt that many people noticed in various "decency" groups that at one time at least tried so vigorously to have "smut" removed from the shelves of high school and even public libraries.

Will someone please explain to me why all those who can't get their personal issues resolved by running and whining to Big Brother and Big Sister usually lay all their frustrations on the doorstep of "conservatives"? And why those "conservatives" at always depicted as evil older white men in three-piece suits who, it is impled, have a huge vault somewhere where all the stolen wealth (a/k/a "da peoples' money") is hoarded?

The greatest beauty of the United States Constitution is that most power is delegated to the individual states, and that the majority of the amendments deal with a single issue -- the "peculiar institution" of slavery, and all the problems it later spawned, such as segregation. And two other amendments revolved around Prohibition -- an attempt by two well-organized mass movements to get their way at the expense of their opponents -- ending with "no gain" on either side.

Pornography and censorship are naturally intended to be private matters, because sexuality, and religion, are the most personal of issues. This is precisely why the courts continue to defer to community standards whenever possible. But a small, but very force-minded group of LGBT(XYZ?) militants seek to force their vision of things into the law of the land -- with opposition from authoritarian religious conservatives who have the opposite scenario (but the same tactics) in mind.

These examples represent the sort of material I was only occasionally, but still regularly exposed to in my three junior high years. But I doubt that they get much attention today, in classrooms where the "pop wisdom" and Political Correctness are put at center stage. The goal of the present educational Establishment and its unionized minions is to teach us what to think, rather than how to think.

Are conservatives being targeted here, or is it that the actors being targeted for other reasons so often turn out to be of that political bent?

The powers reserved to the states under the Tenth Amendment are entirely residual, consisting only of powers not plausibly granted by the Constitution to the federal government and also not plausibly denied by it to the states.

You talk so vaguely that I always have trouble understanding you. I think you are suggesting that the constitutional amendments providing for an income tax and woman's sufferage ended up "with no gain on either side". Is that correct?

I think they were a gain for everyone.

The Constitution does not delegate "most power" to the states. It says that powers which are not delegated to the federal government are reserved to the states or the people. Its all a question of how much power the Constitution gives the federal government.

Sorry for the confusion; I was referring to the two amendments for the enactment, and repeal of Prohibition (18th and 21st)-- a huge waste of time, ink and expense which accomplished nothing.

But the point here is that the initiative regarding minor issues rests with local governments, and it's only after a great deal of public interest is focused on a particular issue -- school prayer is a good example -- before Federal attention or oversight becomes involved. Constitutional "fine tuning" was viewed as the last resort.

And more disturbing to me is the prospect that the increasing polarization within the nation on essentially-personal concerns (I. E: same-sex unions) is encouraging the "activist" components within both camps to intensify the rancor by invoking Federal authority.

And I think the gentleman whom I honored in this thread would have some very interesting comments about last night; The American Experiment is alive and well.

I'm glad you can admit that Donnie is an experiment. Sort of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Perhaps as president-elect we'll begin to see more of the better side of him.

I fear that while there was known content in the Hillary box, the Donald box may well be empty.

US citizen ship has dubious value because there are so few qualifiers and it is too easy for people to get.
