It would interesting to look at countries that very conservative. Especially looking at those countries that very few liberals, especially liberals in power. Unlike USA, countries without a large liberal in government would have a free hand in implementing conservative governmental and social policies. Possibly, could achieve a must more cohesive and orderly society based on conservative principles.

One of the countries that come to my mind is Russia, though might not be most conservative. It fairly cohesive and appear unified. It looks socially fairly conservative and embraces traditional religious views. Though to foreigners, like Americans, their foreign actions may be taken negatively it seems like Russian citizens overwhelmingly prefer Russia projection of power and are very nationalistic.

Does Russia look like one of the most conservative countries to you all? What other countries would consider more conservative without much if any liberal influences?

Russia is one of the most authoritarian countries in the world. China and Venezuela are close.

Iran not so good either.

The concepts of liberal and conservative are relative.

For example, an American conservative in the year 2020 would be a flaming liberal in the year 1920. Similarly, an American liberal in the year 1920 would harbor very conservative positions by the standards of 2020. The division between liberal and conservative within a society shift as the paradigms of that society shift.

Similarly, the places on the socio-political spectrum at which each concept falls depends on the overall nature of the society in question. They will fall at different places in Australia than in the U.S., in Saudi Arabia than in Cuba, in Sweden than in India. So to say that there are no liberals in country X, by the standards of country Y, makes no sense. You have to do so by the standards of country X alone.

It's also helpful to parse out the area in which you are discussing liberal/conservative. Social issues? Economic? Foreign policy? There is often only incidental association between them.

The above post makes a good point of there being a need to define what a liberal/conservative is given a certain context. You can't apply the standards of the US to other countries and vice versa.

That being said, if we were to simplify things for the sake of argument we could break it down along certain lines.

Russia is a fairly conservative country by western standards, but would be very liberal next to Iran and Saudi Arabia or any of the other Islamic theocracies found around the world Strictly speaking, I would argues that those theocracies are probably the most conservative countries in the world.

"Country" is a pretty broad generalization, but, then - so are "liberal" and "conservative". The U.S., for example is split about 50-50, but, we are likely operating with more freedom of choice than some of the mentioned 'authoritarian' countries.

I'm unclear about what definition might qualify Russia, Iran, North Korea as "conservative" or "liberal." They don't really have much choice about what they are.

Uhh yeah I’d say the left is the most authoritarian bunch. See: stay at home orders and violation of the Constitution / Bill of Rights constantly. Any political party taking an extreme stance goes authoritarian. The Nazis weren’t hard right, they were hard left - the National Socialist Party. Though the liberals would love to say they were extreme right, that’s their bias - the organization literally called themselves socialists. It’s the same as how liberals love to tell us that in the past the democrats were republicans, because they find it awkward that democrats were in the pro slavery camp.

Saudi Arabia is near the top of any conservative list.

Canada, Western Europe and Australia are very conservative when it comes to enforcing immigration laws. That is why they have nothing like the illegal alien fiasco that we have in the United States.

This also affords these countries the luxury of being liberal about almost everything else.

The slavers abandoned the Democratic party when Johnson pushed the Civil Rights Act. Strom Thurmond switched to the Republican Party in protest, and Barry Goldwater decided the Republicans needed to be right wing. Nixon helped. Then they conducted a purge of all moderate Republicans by labeling them a RINO and running against them in primaries. What a difference 50 years can make.

Probably the stupidest thing that Obama did in his first term was to not push for a new Voting Rights Act after the SCOTUS decided southerners were all gentlemen who would never suppress voting rights ever again.

I agree. Fundamentalist countries where women are subordinate/submissive to men are most conservative.

Anyplace where women are required to wear more modest clothing than men, cover their hair all the time in public, etc. I consider to be very conservative.

There are communities in the U.S. that are also very fundamentalist/conservative.
