Hello!

I was wondering if anyone could help me find a new salon to get my hair cut. I'm settling into this area and simply haven't had any luck finding a place I 'love.' I've been to commercial brands like Regis and Rudy and Kelly but am interested in knowing if anyone is familiar with something not commercialized and provides great service.

I typically have trouble finding a good place for my hair cuts because I'm not sure if anyone understands my hair type. I have thick hair that is both wavy and flat which is a bit frustrating as it never does what I try to get it to do. Does anyone know a place where they specialize in an Hispanic/Asian mixed hair type? I prefer cuts that are slightly above the shoulder.

Not sure about this particular area at all, but if you're willing to travel - (and I am regarding my hair because I have very straight, very fine strands, but incredibly thick amounts of hair) I go to Reactions Salon in the Harborview section of Suffolk. Always get a great deal for going to a salon vs. the commercial places and have always gotten a great haircut and awesome services from some truly caring girls! I liked Susan, Brandy, and Layla.

I have heard good things about Changes in Norfolk, but I found them overpriced in regards to quality compared to traveling the extra to go out to Reactions. I just go on a weekend and make a fun trip out of it, but I used to travel from the Great Neck VB area just to go to this place.

Thanks for the input! I also heard about a couple of nice places in Ghent, etc around Downtown Norfolk but as you said pricing can be a little on the high end. While its a bummer that there isn't any place really standing out local, a good hair cut is worth a short drive! I'll have to try that place out. I'm letting my hair grow a little bit more before I commit on a cut but just might pay Reactions a visit.

I go to AOC Salon in Norfolk. I have curly hair, and it takes a special kind of person to tame my hair. For maintenance, I'll go to SuperCuts.

I have had bad experiences at Changes in Norfolk. The girls there like to use the razor blades to cut hair, and I've always ended up with sections of hair missing and an un-even cut.
