Hey everyone, does anyone know if the shipyard in New Port News Virginia would deny one from gaining employment due to 2 felony DWI' 7+ yrs ago? Guy would hate to get his hopes up just to have that come back to haunt him.

The Navy & the yard, not the same of course, have various criteria for how they view criminal offenses; and in VA, a traffic violation comes under criminal law. With no other traffic offenses and no other offenses at all, it should not be an issue given the time frame and the shortage of skilled welders.

Perhaps the union might help: https://usw8888.org

Apply, disclose. While the DUI's might not be on the DMV records, it might show up on other databases.

Here is a sample wavier chart. https://www.navycs.com/blogs/2010/05...for-enlistment.

Thank you very for your response. Up to this point in time I've undergone several background checks and they weren't a concern whatsoever. However I do let it be known before I even apply somewhere so I don't waste anyone's time. I get ahold of the union today and get his take on this. Again, thanks.
