Hi. I am moving to hampton road to possibly go to ODU or William and Mary. My fiance is going to be working at NASA Langley. Are there any good places to live that would give us both a 30 min or less commute? I know the tunnel is terrible.

I would stay in the Norfolk area. You can look in Ghent, Colonial Place, Winona, Bayville....

if you are going to wm, stay on the peninsula; if you are going to odu, live in norfolk.. your husband will have a reverse commute going to hampton in the morning

Anywhere in lower York County would fit the bill. Close to Langley and about 20-25 minutes from W&M.

On the peninsula, it depends on what type of housing you want. If you are looking for new urbanist developments (walk to shops, restaraunts)...look at Port Warwick or City Center in newport News or New Town in Williamsburg, which is near WM... If you want a house or a more suburban development, look at york co. PW and CC are about half way to Langley and WM

Thanks for the advice. We are looking for a house in a nice neighborhood probably. I would want to pay anywhere from $1000-1300 a month. We don't need anything big just somewhere safe and convenient.

I am an alumni of ODU. Great choice. I currently work in Ghent. It's about 5 min. from ODU. I use to live in Hampton in an apartment that was called the Wyndam. It is directly behind Colesium Mall. I would not recommend living in York. It's a traffic nightmare trying to get anywhere heading south. I suggest living in Ghent and let the finance get to Langely in 30 min. My wife works at the Hampton VA Hospital and I work in Ghent. We live in a very awesome place in VA Beach. I have a 30 min. commute and she has a 45 min. It's worth the commute. VA Beach is a great place to live. I have lived in Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News and now VA Beach. I wish we would have started in VA Beach.

Thanks for the advice ODUgrad. Someone at my work also suggested Ghent. I have been there and it seems like a really nice place. I didn't get to go to Virginia Beach on any of my recent trips, so I will have to go check it out in March when I go back.
