Just after midnight Saturday night, I submitted my article "Drive Safely on This Death Drive," which was published within one hour of the latest fatality on Shore Drive. The article was about Shore Drive and I recounted some dangerous experiences I had just blocks from where the bicyclist was killed by an SUV. I also compared the drive to the happenings in Stephen King's novel, "Christine." Eerie to say the least. See the published story at

Exactly. I don't think Shore Drive is any worse than any other beachfront highway in the US. I was going accross Shore Drive via Page to Vista and when the light turned green, a car turned left onto Shore coming at me from Vista and looked at me like I was crazy. If I didn't have good brakes, I would have plowed right into them.

What you all say is very true but parts of Shore Drive do offer challenges for impaired drivers. Windy roads, few street lights, drinking to the left, drinking to the right, bars on both ends, etc. Another cause of fatalities on Shore drive is the sun's position particularly at sunrise. I would not jog or ride my bike during these questionable time frames.

I appreciate this tip. I'll watch out for it. You should charge for this info, you know? Something like a hazardous road atlas map on-line. People who drive a lot would appreciate it. You could get vehicle insurance companies as advertisers.
