I used to take Ambien, but now just take 5mg. melatonin. I still have to get up to pee sometimes, but usually go back to sleep pretty easily unless I am worrying about something.

Last night I just fussed and worried all night. As soon as I started to fall asleep I got a text and then a phone call. Now I can barely keep my eyes open.

Melatonin !! Is this as good as Ambien?

I think I may have a bowel issue on the pee thing.

For older men, an enlarged prostate can be the cause of frequent nighttime bathroom visits.

Diabetes can be another culprit, especially excessive thirst and having to wake to pee often.

I take melatonin to sleep. It works pretty well, but I've never taken Ambien so I don't know how they compare. I do know that you can stop taking melatonin if you want to without any ill effects. It also helps you get right back to sleep if you have to wake up for something like a restroom trip.

Quetiapine (Seroquel) for me. However, this is a heavy duty tranquilizer for most people, so it is only prescribed for the most hardened insomniacs. It works great for me, and I can get 6-7 hours of sleep on it. Perhaps it's time for OP to switch to something else. Lunesta is a great alternative that has few side effects.

Not sure this may help or be an option, but hubby and I have both noticed that BAKING SODA 'knocks us out' nicely - about a half teaspoon in about 6 oz of water at bedtime. Cheap and easy to try and see if it 'gels' with you.

I used Melatonin with limited frequency for about 15 years. Just as a suggestion, consider starting off with a low dose and work your way up if you need to. I used the 1 mg from GNC. Virtually every drugstore and grocery store I see seems to carry the 3 and 5 mg. I once took 3 mg and found it had a strange effect on me, however for a grown adult male, it should be no problem.

Starting off any medication or supplement with as conservative a dose as possible is always a good idea.

I sent you a DM on my sleep remedy which contains low dose melatonin. There is a book The Melatonin Miracle still available and other info on the melatonin miracle and pinal gland. I get 8+ good hours nightly and i'm oldER...

I know a person who packed on mega weight on the Seroquel drug, the weight gain was shocking...it took about a year to take that weight off. There's gotta be other ways.
