I visited a local countertop fabrication shop that offered to sell me what I needed size wise using one slab of Silestone Mont Blanc (Group 2) or for $500 less, I could get everything I need size wise to fit using a remnant piece (that didn't have much removed from it) of Samsung Radianz Aleutian White. This remnant piece was recently acquired by the shop and it still has the plastic peel over it. They also had a full slab of Radianz Aleutian White and Everest White. How do fabrication shops acquire full unused slabs for their remnant area?

How does the quality of Samsung Radianz compare to Silestone? Is there much difference price-wise between them for a regular slab?

Default All the same

All engineered quartz is the same.
This company Breton S.p.a. invented the process.
They build the fabrication equipment.
They license the process.

So, it does not matter whether your countertop was made in:
USA - CAMBRIA® Natural Stone Surfaces | For Kitchen Countertops, Bathrooms & More
Canada - Home | Hanwha Surfaces
Spain - Silestone® by Cosentino
Vietnam - Vicostone Quartz Surfaces - vicostoneus.com
Israel - Quartz Countertops, Kitchen Design Ideas - Caesarstone

The exception is Radianz made in Korea - http://www.staron.com - which is not a Breton process. But, as it is Samsung, I am sure the quality is the same.

Thanks for the information. So I guess the $500 savings by going for the remnant piece makes sense. It's still puzzling how this fabricator had a couple of full unused quartz slabs in his remnant yard. The fabricator said and the back of the slabs had a sticker from a major regional chain of tile stores. Hope they aren't defective.

Depending on how certain shops work, a shop may have ordered a slab from the manufacturer for someone who later changed their mind before the shop cut it up . The un-touched slabs may then sometimes be sold at a cheaper price just to get rid of them for one reason or another.
