I so enjoyed seeing the wall of musical instruments! Because great minds think alike, I guess, I was thinking over lunch that I'd like to know what sorts of unusual things you have hung, framed or unframed, on your walls. I tend to be sort of traditional myself. I have some framed art works, some pottery plates, and even some blue and white plates on my walls, as well as several mirrors and family photos.
In other words, my stuff is not very imaginative. I would really like to know what things you guys have hung. I wouldn't mind hearing how you solved the problems inherent with framing unusual thing, either.
One of the sweetest unusual thing I have ever seen hanging was in a for sale house. It was what appeared to be an old fashioned girl's dress, perhaps a size 3 or so, carefully displayed in a shadowbox on a wall. I assume the dress had been handmade for a special occasion, although I am making an assumption. I liked it. I regret that I did not get to keep any of the dresses my mom made for me! She did a lot of sewing when I was little.
But we saved all the wrong things, I think.
What have you run across, or what thing have you hung? Give us details, please. Maybe I'll get some ideas for my own house.
Location: Finally the house is done and we are in Port St. Lucie!

Subscribing because I have something I would like to do with my Dad's Army uniform and his Flag. Maybe I can get some ideas from this thread.
We have hung guitars on our wall. Son made some special 'L' shaped braces, to rest the neck and body of the guitars, in High School for them. It was pretty cool. They framed out a nice 'Beatles' picture, one on each side of the picture.
I have a small collection of handmade wooden string puppets, each about 9 inches tall. One is an alligator, one a bull, one a doctor, etc. I have hung these is a pleasing arrangement in the powder room. Each one is unique and I know our visitors tend to stay in the washroom a good while.
My dad found an antique military bugle at an estate sale and snagged it for me. I framed it and I hang it up at Christmas.
I also found an awesome mirror frame with a broken mirror in it at Hobby Lobby. They sold the frame to me for next to nothing. I put a clock in it instead.
The last one is of my mantel. Yes, it looks sort of traditional but look closely. My house has a very formal look to it. I was very picky about what I was going to hang above the mantel because it's the focal point of the entire house. I looked high and low for something unique - tried all sorts of things. Then one day I found this very rustic rusted iron fleur de lis in a rough hewn lumber, very sparce frame, for $35 at a flea market. Took it home, put it up there and by golly if I don't think it's perfect. Whoduthunkit!

Well I imagine they do! I sure would. The puppets sound intriguing. How did you hang them?

I like all of these, but I especially like the clock in a frame. Very pretty. I like the bugle too, though. The fleur de lis does look great over your mantel.
I have part of the side of a wooden wagon on my wall; it came from a dairy wagon that my grandfather used to drive to make milk deliveries, and has the name of the family dairy painted on it.
