I belong to several design groups on fb. MOST of the pics posted asking for advice are the blandest grays/browns/whites/creams/beiges you've ever seen. People seem to be terrified of adding color - especially painting walls in colors.
The new trend (which is already tired in my book) is green as the new gray. I guess if it gets people off gray, that's a win.
Since I live alone, I'd choose colors that are personally flattering to my own coloring. I had my colors done by Jennifer Butler Color about ten years ago to transform my wardrobe. She has expanded to home decor compatible with what she calls your "essence" to reflect your personality in addition to your complexion. Her own home is uniquely designed and definitely expresses her creativity.
I never understood white or gray walls (and ceilings!). Never had them, never will.
I am glad things are moving towards color... but those examples are really out there!

I tend to use art and furnishings to provide interior colors. They're easy to move around and change whenever I want. The warm pale grey walls in this house set my art and collectible displays off quite nicely!
I love gray. I have despised browns, tans and beiges for years, and that has been the only neutral options (other than black and white of course) until gray started getting play. I love it! It goes with EVERYTHING and is not stark like black. It's simply a neutral - just because one likes gray it doesn't mean that they don't love color.
This was a helpful link for me and came at a perfect time!
We are slowly moving into our newly purchased home. We are taking the valuable things ourselves, due to some negative experiences that we had in the past.
Anyway, today we took artwork. Paintings, prints and art glass. I was excited to see how my collection looked. However, the awful neutral beige walls were dingy and depressing. This beige, the neutral that preceded grey, was so bad that it reminded me of why grey looked so fresh 15 years ago.
I am not a fan of the color blocking, but I am wondering if a darker color could be a neutral that could work.
When I think "neutral" I usually think of a lighter color.
Does anyone have any suggestions for kitchens with medium, warm, real wood cabinets with light oatmeal colored granite countertops and an exposed brick wall?
Right now it's a goldish light beige that does nothing for anything. I am NOT interested in white cabinets or taking a sledgehammer to the kitchen cabs - because they are nice, natural, classic and functional. It's just the wall color.
I was also thinking of a very dilute Spoonflower wallpaper pattern with a Scandinavian or midcentury modern flair.
My everyday dishes are bright Fiesta ware. So color scares me a little.
There was a medium green that was dusky-ish that attracted me. I just do not want dark and gloomy.
