wood burning stove surroundings? (floor, vacuum, colors, ceramic)

Hi,
I could really use some design advice:
We have wood-burning stove, which I like. The back wall and the floor under the stove is made from bricks. It drives me crazy to clean up under teh stove - the brick pad is uneven and scratchy, so we are thinking about replacing it with the ceramic/stone tile. However, I would like to keep the bricks on the back wall, so what kind of tiles would be the good match to the "used bricks", if at all possible?
The room is painted pale yellow with wood trim, but we are redecorating it anyway, so it does not matter.
I appreciate any examples/design ideas.

Soapstone. Doesn't matter what colour because it'll change slightly over time.

If you vacuum rather than "sweep" the uneven surface of the brick floor under the wood stove should not make much of a difference. If you do replace I second the soapstone suggestion.

Hmm, interesting idea... Thanks for advice. Do they look mostly gray? I was thinking mostly brown/clay-like colors. I'll try to post pictures later today.
