Thinking of purchasing a house which was owned by a cat owner. Not just one cat, several and the house stinks.
What will I need to do to get rid of this smell? Is it even possible?

Is there carpet in the house, or is it hardwood? What about wallpaper? That will hold smells too. A steam cleaner can help and so can vinegar and baking soda (not together).

Hardwood floors. Plaster walls, no wallpaper.

Eww. I have to admit that having a van pull up to a house with the name "Planet Urine" on it isn't exactly appealing!

I'd try Branson's idea. I don't know if you will have to replace parts of the floor or not. I've seen wood that is so bad off, it's just got to go - usually it's from dogs though.

Good luck!

Our old neighbors had this issue. The previous owners had cats that would pee in one corner of the basement. They took up the carpet, tried all kinds of cleaning products, etc. They eventually had to have someone come in and take out a couple inches of their cement floor and put in new cement.

Good luck to you.

I agree you may have to have a pro come in. The problem with cat smells is it gets into so much and doen;t just go away over time. Since much of it is pee that can soak into places you can;t get to yourself. Add to the problem is that many cat owners don;t realize that the place stink cause they are so use to the stink that by the time they realize how bad it smells, its way to late for fabreeze.

Just today I had a professional co come in to clean just one room of cat urine odors etc. My older cat, who was euthanized on Monday, had litter box problems.

Not sure what they used as far as product, but they used a carpet cleaning machine with a different attachment.

Now it is clean and dry and NO odor that I can tell.
Worth 75 bucks for a cat room with vinyl floor about 8x12.
