Maybe someone can help me. I have a wicker/rattan? loveseat and chair inside in my bedroom. I would like to put them out on my front porch with some pretty cushions. I know because of the material I should probably protect the wicker? But with what? I saw some type of sprays-polyurethane? at the home depot. Do I use that to protect it? I know it's not going to last forever but I just don't want to spend a fortune on those faux wicker outdoor types. It will be well covered under a huge front porch no direct sunlight?

Any ideas?

I've had the same white wicker furniture for more than 20 years on a covered, but open porch. It wasn't an expensive set either. Once a year we'd wash them with a hose and mild soap and a soft brush. Twice in the 20+ years I've used a wirebrush to scrape off any loose paint and then spray painted them with plain old typical spray paint. The set has held up incredibly well!

I agree with mawipafl, I've had the same white wicker for years on a covered porch. I've sprayed it with a new coat of paint a few times, and I've had to replace the cushions because they fade (worth it to spend the $$ on sunbrella fabric) from the sunlight.

Your wicker will actually last longer on a covered porch than it would inside. The moisture keeps the wicker pliable so that it can flex. Indoors, the air dries out the wicker and it starts to break.

I'm not sure, but I would think that cheap paint would work better, because it is thinner. It'll coat just fine, but won't fill the gaps and get chipped up when the chair flexes.
