Apparently there are a few different ways an individual can purchase and register a suppress for their gun. The most direct is to register it to yourself, but this requires the signature of the Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) in your area, which may or may not be easy to obtain.

Has anyone gone through this process or know if obtaining approval is much of an issue here? Do I have to have a good reason to get approval (my only real reason at this point is that I think it'd be pretty bad-*****, but I'm fine trying to find other reasons that could also appeal to me )

Is it easier to just set up a gun trust and go that way?

From what I have heard the Harris Country CLEO will not approve, Ft Bend will and so will Alvin as I have friends with them in those areas that got it approved.

I went with Sean Cody. He's a lawyer that specializes in gun trusts. He costs a little more than most other trust lawyers, but his trusts are tailored to meet everything the BATFE requires in a post-approval audit - which you have a higher likelihood of having done than an IRS audit.

There is no free lunch. They are making it up somewhere else.

Also, the owner of tactical firearms has a reputation that requires I spend money elsewhere.

One of many articles on the subject:

Question of the Day: Would You Buy a Gun From This Man? | The Truth About Guns

In my humble opinion, he also set us back with his Morgan interview.

My husband just did it through Tactical Firearms. It took about six months start to finish.

He should never have accepted Morgan.

A guy I shoot with told me that Tactical Firearms considers collecting your own brass "shoplifting". Granted, this is second-hand, but I have no reason to believe the guy would lie to me.
