Hello everybody.

I am looking for approximately 2-5 acres to build a barndominium. I need to be within 30 miles of the energy corridor for work and would like to stay in Katy ISD or more preferably Lamar CISD.

Are there any acreage type communities that allow barndominiums? Maybe a small subdivided acreage mini ranch type subdivision that allows animals? Maybe around Richmond or Rosenburg?

Obviously I don't want to be in a flood plain. I've seen several tracts of land for sale on HAR, but I'm not familiar with the area.

I plan on digging at least a one acre pond to stock with fish. I will also have a garden and a shop.

My max budget for the land cost is around $150k.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Lamar ISD is to far away check out the area between Katy and Brookshire. Also Check Fortbend Waller and North West Brazoria counties all within 30 miles

The demand is too high in Lamar ISD and Katy ISD to find what you're looking for. On the other hand, Sealey is 33 miles away from the edge of the energy corridor according to google maps. You'd have better luck finding unrestricted land out that way.

Actually it can be done, surprisingly.

Real Estate Map Search and Texas real estate

I had to run the search with the acreage parameter set at 1 to 5 acres and the max price to $175k, but there you go. Obviously only the properties in the northern-most area of the search results would be (theoretically) 30 minutes from the energy corridor, depending upon commute time.

You can also just do a search on HAR.com and list Lamar CISD as the school district, minimum lot size to an 1+ acres, etc.

If you can deal with a 45 minute commute then you will find some fantastic options in the 359 corridor or around Simonton. Both are in Lamar and you ought to be able to find an unrestricted (or lightly restricted ) plot of land on which to build.

North side of Fulshear in Fulshear Estates. No HOA rules. Zoned to the brand new middle school and high school I believe. Just at 30 miles to the Energy corridor.

South Mallard Dr, Fulshear, TX 77441 - HAR.com

Default barndominium Community

I am doing research for a developer on a possible "barndominium" community. It is located in Lamar ISD. Very close good schools. I read the posts on this blog. The thought is that these would be on 1 acre lots. But it would be a small planned development as opposed to just an acre in the middle of nowhere. I am interested in what you were able to find on the market.

I had to do a google images search just to see what a barndominium is. They look really cool but do you feel safe in them during severe weather?
