However, this would be great in Austin.
I don’t think Tesla will end up here, but this is crazy uninformed. Houston is the energy capital not the oil capital. There are tons of green energy jobs here.

Yeah. The green energy jobs “hurt” the oil companies much more than Tesla would. Plus there’s lots of electricity and utility companies in Houston that would do good with renewable energy.

Anyway, Austin is not a major corporate hub. Houston and Dallas are. The reason the notion would be that Dallas would get the nod over Houston is that Houston’s corporate scene is less diverse than Dallas’ is. Austin serves great for a tech center, that’s what they normally attract given their software engineering scene.

To determine the favorite, you have to see who has more corporate space available. Tesla would require a fairly large campus. I’ve heard Plano’s corporate space is getting scarce, but this could open the door for Irving. Even with the energy industry down, Houston’s corporate space isn’t super open either because corporate jobs are the last to leave. In fact, other energy companies have been moving their HQ to Houston during this pandemic. Murphy just began their move to Houston a few days ago.

If I had to say a favorite, it’s DFW. But that’s even if Tesla moves its HQ. They could be bluffing to get things going their way. Whether it goes to DFW, HOU, Austin or even San Antonio, it would be a great thing for the scene.

If Elon is upset about too-heavy regulation in CA, Austin is NOT where you'd want to go in Texas. It would be the last place, actually.

You think Elon and Grimes will relocate to humid sulfur smellling Houston when they can be in Austin close to clear lakes and more California minded people?

Elon may live in California currently but he definitely is one of the more conservative ones out here and his political leanings are certainly to the right. He'd be just fine in Houston with his "x" house in River Oaks or downtown condo.

Did any of you actually consider this is a temper tantrum and he’s not going to do anything?

It's almost guaranteed that a new Tesla giga factory will be built in Texas. The HQ move remains to be seen but I wouldn't put it past Elon.

This is the most likely outcome in my opinion.
