In the middle of the night,I can hear what happens outside better than in the daytime.
Sometimes when I am in bed,I hear like someone is trying to see if he can open my front door ,of course I could be wrong,if anyone wants to break in,they would try the back door not the front door.
Last night,I did not turn on the alarm of a pole I usually pressed against my back door and I clearly heard sound like someone turning the door knob.
But he would have to climb over the back fence to get into my backyard and then try the backdoor?
Is that common? Is it worth it??This subdivision is not a wealthy sub.
I know my neighbors, one is divorced and lived alone, the other is a couple, they seldom have visitors, not even in the day time.
I have a sensor light which is meant to be mounted outdoor so if there is any movement,it would flash a light, but I never bother to get an electrician to install it,may be it can be installed by plugging it into outdoor outlet where the light is ?
But what about camera which would take picture ?I am curious ?

Get a camera. Then you'll know if it's just teens fooling around or something more serious. Either way you'll have something to show the police, and lock your doors.

There is a metal door in front of my back door,so he would have to break both doors to get in.
But a camera is a good idea.
It is strange, sometimes I hear like a man is coming home, and sometimes 2 women talking?
Once a predator bird going after some thing with a growl ,in the morning I would see small white mouse with head bitten off!very small may be 2 inches long/
I have mocking birds living in my backyard,I dont think they eat mice and work at night?

You can get solar motion light, no need to call electrician.
I always hear all sorts of noises at night, from squirrels to the structural noises from the house itself. But if you are not sure, get a camera. Read the reviews on Amazon

It could be that racoons are trying to turn the door knob. They do have hands with fingers and if someone has been feeding them nearby, they just mistook your house.

possible,I used to live near a forest reserve, one morning I found a raccoon holding a chicken bone on top of my garbage can.
She later has a family and she would topple the garbage can ,opened the lid and start a family pow wow.

A Ring doorbell in the front and a stick up cam in the back were probably the best thing I ever bought for home security. Plus I can see when packages are delivered so they don't get stolen from my doorstep.
