Is there a bank here in town that will allow for exchange of dollars for Euros? My bank doesn't have this service. I am going to Europe soon and would like a head start on getting Euros. I heard the airports in Europe will do it, but can be costly. Thanks.

My recommendation is to use an ATM in the airport to get cash when you arrive. Many countries in Europe are nearly cashless as well; on my last two trips I never got local currency. Used my card for everything. Make sure you have a "tap" feature on your card.

I agree with the above. I go to Europe twice a year and I always use the ATMs on arrival. Its always the best rate.

Another vote for the ATMs. Do it that way, pay the fee once, and move on. Definitely better than dealing with currency exchange.

This is great news actually. I prefer to use my cc for everything, but will bring my ATM also.

I never use ATM, just my credit card /GPay.
Exchange is always best at destination (not at the airport, though)

BBVA Compass, BB&T, let them know you have international currency stamps and notes.

Check out Texas currency Exchange in the mall. I've exchanged currency there for multiple trips and they always had the best rates. Not sure how it is nowadays, but may be worth checking out.

ATM, yes - hard to find "local" exchange - my bank will do it...for a fee. AAA used to do it - but no longer.

Was easily able to get cash from ATMs all over Europe - do NOT select "do the conversion" when the option appears - you will be fleeced and kicking yourself.

Meantime - for folks who say "just use a credit card" - how do you throw a Euro on the counter for an espresso? how do you pay street vendors? how do you "even up" with someone who picks up the tab? never had a "cash only" cab? and so on. Many - many - reasons to have some pocket-cash handy when traveling, though some locations are less "cash friendly" than others.

At the end of every guided tour I've ever taken, the participants discretely hand cash to the guide.

While tipping cultures vary, it's always appreciated by the bellhop, the airport luggage staff, the guy that wrangles the cab for you, and other times when it's clear the service might be appreciative.

Many reasons to have cash.
