What's the best area/place/suburb to live in outside of Houston if I'd need to commute to Downtown/Montrose area every day?

Living in the city of Houston isn't in the plans, so please don't ask.

I'm looking specifically for answers outside of the city of Houston where the commute hopefully wouldn't be too bad (although I know that's not always realistic, traffic here is abysmal.)

Some context: I'm in my mid 20s, single.

What about Houston are you trying to avoid? Want more space, lower crime? What is your budget? What do you consider an unacceptably long commute?

Are you willing to take commuter buses? Or drive yourself only?

If living in the Houston city limits is out of the realms of possibility. And your job is in the middle of Houston. And you want a decent commute. Then you need to start looking elsewhere. You’re asking for something that doesn’t exist. You have to either find a different job or adjust your criteria and get ready for a commute. I suppose Western Pearland may be the most reasonable commute for what you’re looking for

Sugar Land wouldn’t be bad, relatively speaking, but if you had to go in the middle of rush hour it would take you 45 minutes to an hour to get downtown on the Southwest Freeway—more if there was a traffic tie-up. But on weekends you could be downtown having fun in about 30 minutes. Fort Bend Transit buses are pretty reliable—I rode them for years, to the Galleria area and to the Medical Center—and they have finally started running direct routes from Sugar Land to downtown.

You already basically asked the same question in another thread and you said the commute from The Woodlands was “ungodly.”

Maybe city living is not for you?
