Which new bridge over the Ohio are you referencing too?

Rt. 60 could prove to be a bigger headache.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to specify. It's the one up in the Northern Panhandle south of Wellsburg.

Not to change the subject but are there any plans to upgrade Rt 2 and possibly build a bridge to Ohio at Merritt's creek?

No updated plans that I've heard. Perhaps with the assurance of federal funding provided by the Highways bill passed in December and the potentially high economic impact developments of Tanyard Station and The Crossing, the bridge may get a renewed look and some prioritization. We can only hope. It would be a great upgrade!

The Crossing is located on the Big Ben Bowen Highway just past the Merritt's Creek Farm Shopping Plaza (the one with Home Depot and Target) on the left. Less than 0.5 miles off I-64. It is in the very early stages of development; they are only doing site preparation work now. There is a ton of site prep to do there because it is basically on a mountain which they appear to be leveling. There have been very little details on this development and no official reports by the media and no site plans which have been made public. The sign on the property says "coming soon, upscale retail, dining, and lodging" or something to that effect. Old Colony Realty appears to be coordinating the development and involved in sale of the parcels. They have advertised that 6 prime acres are currently available to be sold and ready for development. The listing says that 60 additional acres are being developed, so it is quite a large piece of land apparently, just not much is known in terms of specifics.

Looks like WVDOT has engineering consultant contract requests for further widening of I-64 from 29th St. Exit (#15) to the East Mall Road Exit (#20) due June 26th. I would imagine this will become a much needed project as Tanyard Station really gets under way and starts to open up, creating significantly increased traffic volume. If The Crossing ever develops into something major, that would also increase the need for the I-64 expansion in that area.

Upcoming Consultant Contract Detail

Even without those developments, that section of the interstate needs expanded to help with existing traffic numbers and flow.

With the passage of the Governors large road reconstruction package by the WV Legislature it will be interesting to see how quickly things move on the projects identified in the STIP. The governor has repeatedly said that these jobs are ready to be bid out and started immediately; so in other terms, essentially "shovel-ready." I wonder if we will start seeing a flurry of road construction in the current contract season?
