According to City-Data, the Estimated median household income in 2019: $56,736 (it was $33,980 in 2000)
- median income for AL is $51,734

Are there employment opportunities in Athens? What major companies are located there?

There was a recent announcement of some sort of metal industry that would hire 200 people, and not tied to MTMUS. Basically though, Athens is part of the Huntsville metro so it's easy enough to live in Athens/Limestone and work closer in to Huntsville/Madison. If schools are a consideration, make sure that you know your school zone before buying. You can't always go by the post office's address.

It makes sense then why most new constructions are on East side of Athens/ East Limestone county due to the shorter commuting time to Huntsville/ Madison.

Correct. The new Mazda/Toyota plant as well as various suppliers is actually in Limestone County (Athens' county) but is also inside the Huntsville city limits (for tax purposes, I assume). There's also an Amazon fulfilment center for large household items directly across Old Hwy 20 from MTMUS, another Amazon center under construction north of the airport (but still in Limestone County) as well as a Buffalo Rock plant (Pepsi Cola) under construction in roughly the same location. Each of the Amazon warehouses is 1,000,000 sq ft. So there's a lot going on in Limestone County. The city of Athens is some distance from many of these locations, but still convenient.

There are also several distribution centers under construction. Mooresville Road just north of Bluebell Creameries is Carter Trucking that recently opened for business. In the southeast corner of I-565 and Swancott Road is a new distribution center still under construction. This is near the GE Aviation facility. In the southwest corner of I-65 and Bibb Garrett Road is another distribution Center still under construction. I have seen something about a fire fighting or sprinkler system company going in here but I am not sure of that. In the Southpoint Business Park at the south end of Endeavor Way is a 405,000 sq. ft. building that has been leased by Polaris.
