TV news stations want you to watch TV. If they make their websites crappy enough, people might say to themselves "Hey, this internet stuff really sucks, I should keep getting the news from the local TV, just like I've always done", and then the gravy-train TV ad money will keep on rolling in without them having to adapt to anything new!

Now that I think about it the TV station websites in Albuquerque are pretty good. I still get a lot of decent news from those sites now that I no longer live in New Mexico. One likely reason is that Albuquerque is the only major city and all the news comes out of there.

And yes, it is super lame that the news stations don't update their websites timely. I suspect it is because they don't see a lot of traffic on their websites.
I have noticed that fairly recently I started getting pictures (suggested pages to follow) of TV news personalities. Most dressed rather proactively. Not even from my area. I didn't even notice at first that it was a TV personality's page, and probably clicked on one. Since doing that Facebook seems to think that is an interest of mine, and pushed more at me.

Exactly. I haven't watched local news in well over 10 years. It is garbage. You can find a more accurate story, in a matter of minutes, at any time of the day you want, online. No need to listen to an inaccurate slant or opinionated version that ends with "at this time no charges have been filed."

So where do you get up-to-date LOCAL news online?

Playing devil's advocate - but how do you know it hasn't improved if you haven't watched for over 10 years?

There is a little bit on all the local TV websites, but I watch local early in the mornings, before network programming comes on, which is at 7 a.m. - except for Channel 15, which has an additional hour of Channel 19 news (I suppose they're owned by the same folks?). It's a lot better than nothing for local. I usually do not watch in the late afternoons/evenings, which is when I assume the more experienced anchors and reporters are on.

Well what kind of news coverage do you guys want? When I watch the local news, I see a fair amount of community things going on that get coverage, along with the supposedly slanted crime reports. Another thing is, many people want to know what's happened in terms of crime in their local area. I wouldn't know about a lot of things going on unless I watch the 6:30pm news. (Or 6pm as the case may be.)

As you all know, this isn't the age of Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite or other respected journalists. That era isn't coming back either, because of the dumbing down of the populace and their need to be entertained. I only watch WHNT because I only have Paramount+ I don't see what's so wrong with a little lighthearted banter amongst the anchors and reporters.

I used to watch WHNT up until a couple years ago when they clearly started pushing an opinion based narrative similar to the National News.

Now I watch WAAY which I think does a better job of reporting.

Not to be contrary, but I don't see opinion based. Would you please give an example?

Can you also give an example of why you think WAAY does a better job? Thanks.
