I'm from Vermont, I guess that qualifies. When I was growing up, there
were no "Chinese" restaurants in northern Vermont. It was a big deal when a funky Tex-mex restaurant opened up in Burlington. I think the first time I ate at a Chinese restaurant it was in Montreal or Toronto.
(...and in most oriental cooking, the chicken feet are used to thicken soups.)
