Can anyone tell us about the Turkey Mountain area ... just east of Decatur?
Things like crime, pollution, parks, distances, internet ???
Would appreciate any help given

Think it's basically Priceville .... guess there is a road that skirts Turkey Mountain ... hence the name Turkey Mtn Rd ....

Well, if it's Priceville...that's a growing area with several new subdivisions with big big new houses. But overall, it's still a rural area. You're about 8 miles from Decatur, which is where most of the shopping (grocery stores, Target, WalMart etc) and restaurants are located. It's part of the Morgan County School system. Priceville High and elementary are rated pretty high, but that's not true of the rest of the system. Not that the schools are bad. They're average.
Parks: county parks, mostly, with a couple of small city parks. There are ball leagues - baseball/softball and soccer are VERY big activities for youngsters. Although the river is close by, the only river recreation is via the wildlife refuge, which limits access to just a few times a year and only has rough boat launches.
Internet: Several options available. Not as many as Huntsville, but there should be plenty to satisfy.
Pollution: Lots of row crops that way. Aerial spraying in the summer. You might have a nice aroma a day or two from fertlizer being applied this time of year. Chicken houses on out in the county. Due to being in a valley, this area is one of the worst for allergies.
Some things to watch for: sinkholes. The area has sandstone caves, as well as limestone. Not bad in Priceville, but be aware of the possibility farther east. Sewerage. The house may very well be on septic tank. Utilities: that area is served by Joe Wheeler Electric Co-op and Wheeler Gas. Both are more expensive than Decatur. Not that you have any choice!

Any areas around Priceville where the ground is really sandy? Would love to find an area like that to move so don't have to haul sand in for a horse arena!

So sorry it has taken so long to respond. We have had a rough couple of days .... saying goodbye to our beloved Smoothie dog. We really appreciate you taking the time to share all of this helpful information. The sinkholes and spraying are definitely issues we will want to check into. We are thinking of taking a drive up tomorrow to check it out.
