Metes and bounds is one method of surveying. In Alabama, everything is measured from a grid of section lines. 1 sq. mi grid, subdivided into smaller sections, etc. I know because I had to have property surveyed recently in an area where surveys were rarely done. Cost way too much to have them find the section markers, but wouldn't buy the property without a proper survey.

While most homes are all electric if at all possible you want a home with a fireplace just in case electric goes out during a winter storm. While that may not happen every year you will be glad you have it if it does. I use my gas fireplace during the winter to warm the great room where I am most of the time. My electric and gas bill ran me around $120.00 a month during the coldest month but that is for just one person. You will like the spring and fall here because they last more than a week and you won't need to use A/C or heat. Spring has arrived here and the flowers are blooming, beautiful time of year. The one thing to note is during the trees loose their leaves and there is not much greenery which is different than FL.

Yeah - I am kinda not looking forward to the winter because I am definately a SUN person and used to the greenery all year long. I took a little drive up to Savannah about a month ago and everything looked so dismal. I guess I will get use to it. But I do like keeping the windows open so I look forward to that. Although Florida has been quite mild so far actual beautiful. I know before I know it, it will be 90 and 98% humidity. Dina
