According to a local brew club, I've heard it reopened a couple months ago; I don't know who owns or operates it though.

Yeah, they've reopened. I stopped in about a month ago. Ms. Copeland's daughter is running it apparently.

Talking Shakey's Pizza

Shakey's Pizza was located on South Memorial Parkway on the East side of Memorial Parkway in the vicinity of where the useless overpass is. I have been in Huntsville since the 60's, and ate at Shakey's several times. There was one Piano player there that had a pretty good song out during that time called "Flashing Huntsville Lights". It is still played on 105.7 FM sometime. Check it out you might like the song. It is better than most of the current crap coming out these days. The writer/singer is Bobby Brooks

Never heard that song before ... good "****** tonk" song for sure. In my younger days, I went to the Cotton Club more than a few times. He forgot to mention the Plush Horse in the song.

I also remember driving up to the top of Monte Sano in the winter and seeing the lights of Huntsville sprawling below. There are some pretty nice overlooks up there. As I recall, as an energy saver, the city turned off every other streetlight, and I'm not sure they ever turned them on again. The sprawl now is much larger than it was back then, but the lights may not be as bright.
