My husband needs some major dental work and does not have any dental coverage. Is there any good dentist in Idaho Falls that will take payments and that charges a reasonable price?

Question VA System, ISU's Dentistry Residency

Happy Mother's Day, Juneau. For anyone not clear that you are a mom, I strongly encourage all readers to read your recent post in "Let's Get Caught Up." It is hilarious, IMO, now that years have passed. Thank goodness for that male who helped you

About a dentist, a couple of questions and thoughts. I might be confused (easily possible), but I thought your husband went to VA Clinics, implying he is a veteran. Assuming that is correct, is he not eligible for dental care through the VA?

I also don't know what he needs done and if that dental work can be over time or needs to be done very soon.

If he is a Vet, I'd check out services at the SLC VA Hospital. The new U. of Utah School of Dentistry admitted their first class of dental students in 2013-2014. I know they are providing free or low cost care to a certain number of civilians for their dental students to learn on. They might want certain types of dental problems as their first class become Second Year Dental Students in the fall, and usually address more complex cases than first year students.

The VA has had contracted dental specialists and I believe they work with the dental residency/fellowship programs based at U. of Utah Health Center. The local VA clinics may have lists of providers willing to work with Veterans.

I don't know if a general dentist can do what needs done. In your situation, if for some reason your husband doesn't qualify or can't wait for the VA, then I would look at Blackfoot Dentists. I'd also contact ISU's Dept. of Dental Studies or whatever it is called. Given contract seats at Creighton Dental School, some ISU grads would come back to Pocatello to do a residency. I'd just do a general search about ISU and Dentistry. You can read (probably) more about patients they accept.

I'm sure Idaho Falls has dentists willing to be paid over time, but I can't think of who they are. Besides, you are closer to Blackfoot.

I know of a dentist in Blackfoot who is willing to work with pts. on payments over time. He hasn't been in practice very long and I have no idea of whether or not he can address all the needs. Give me 24 hrs. to send you a PM. I know much more about him as a person than dentist, but to the best of my knowledge no one has run out of his office mid-procedure. I need to check with someone to make sure I know his practice's name.
No guarantees of how long to get in etc.

It may be you will use a combination of the resources I've given you above. Hopefully, you can find the help your husband needs.

MSR

Thanks MSR. I'm going to reread your reply when I have a few more minutes (on the run right now). Here is info on VA dental care eligibility: http://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/res...erans_2_14.pdf

He does not qualify under any of the criteria listed above. We're potentially looking at a couple of thousand dollars worth of work. Who knew a mouth was worth that much, eh? Anyway - on the run but I WILL read your message when I have a few more minutes. Thank you.

A couple of links we have found in our research that may be helpful to others:

Link to a new VA dental insurance program:

I am not sure if you have had all the work done, but here is a practice that is pretty lenient with payment terms. Oxford Dental Care - Idaho Falls Dentist | Oxford Dental Care
