Probably 5 or 6 years ago I applied for a FOID card...and perhaps I did something wrong but it just stalled.

About a year ago I made some changes to my account in an effort to re-start the process. When I look, it says, my application has gone through the background process and is waiting for printing. It's been like that for a year. I called, and it's a loop where you can't talk to a person. I emailed, and I got a response saying they aren't answering emails about checking status on applications.

I feel I'm never going to get a chance to legally own a firearm in Illinois.

Anyone run into this and what did you do?

I don't know this for sure, but I have heard if the ISP see something they don't like, things slow down to a halt.

ISP has had delays in processing and Covid hasn't helped things. Unless there is a background related issue for a applicant, ISP has 30 days to make a decision and issue. Contact your state representative.

I renewed my FOID card last year online in the middle of Covid and expected the worst. Got it in a little over a month.

Good morning,

I hope you all NEVER have to USE your firearm. That said, I appreciate your decision to be prepared to defend yourselves, and in particular that you are doing so LEGALLY.

I actually have a Carrying Concealed License in the State of Wisconsin. Not because I carry a firearm, mind you; but rather, because I transport martial arts weapons to classes.

Wishing you all the best!

My son has several firearms and a CCL. He lives here with me sometimes, but when he's gone, he usually only takes some of his firearms with him, and leaves 1-2 here. I'd like to not be charged with a crime if I had to defend my home with one of them. And there may be certain instances/places I have to be where it would be nice to have the option to carry. But no, I wouldn't carry 99% of the time and really don't plan on using the weapon.

Though it would be nice to go shooting with him in my state. Now, I have to drive up to WI to fire one of his guns legally. It's just a pain in the butt.

Kmanshouse, now you listen here, MISTER!!!

If I can come down to your Lincoln Square Diversity Fair at River Park tomorrow, you sure as heck can come up to MY State and pretend you're Charles Bronson, or The Terminator, or whoever, and have some fun practicing on a gun range!

Unfortunately, it looks like there's a 50-60% chance of rain in BOTH of our States tomorrow! But for you, you could be indoor shooting!

I saw this post, and just wanted to share that I wrote a really in-depth article about the FOID Act. You can find that article here: https://www.guilamolaw.com/foid-act-violations/

I renewed mine 2 years ago and never got it.
From what I remember, they got short staffed during during covid.
And they couldn't process them fast enough.
I was told they would validate your old expired card until I got a new one.
But yeah, no one is getting anything.

So ridiculous. So the right to bear arms doesn't exist in IL right now unless you already had a card and it hasn't expired.
