If a person doesn't want to follow norms it doesn't mean that they are always crazy. Some people don't want to be called a he or she, because they do not like to be classified by gender titles. They rather you called them 'ze.' Depending on this situation which is a real sensitive one my approach would of been different.

The teacher had orders from his boss, he chose not to follow them, he can get going.

The school shouldn’t even have this as a policy. I don’t care what you want to be called, your legal name is your legal name.

Did every teacher call every student by their legal name when you went to school? I know my teachers called students by nicknames or other preferred names decades ago. When I was a teacher I did the same thing. Not everyone chooses to be called by their legal name.

The teacher shouldn't have made it into a big deal.

Oh sure, lets call all Bill's William, all Jim's James, all Patty's Patricia.

Yeah but no teacher of mine was ever let go for calling James Jimmy.

He wasn't let go. He offered his resignation because he refused to abide by their policies and they accepted. He claims he was "bullied" into it but yet he's the one refusing to call someone by the name they prefer.

You missed the point entirely, or choose to ignore it-

He wasn't let go for calling a student by the preferred name or a nickname. He was let go for refusing to do so and calling the student by what you term the "legal name."

I don't care what the issue is and have been known to give encouragement to both pros and cons for acting on their convictions. It's the sign of a put-your-money-where your-mouth-is.

I am impressed by a person who stands by his values system. If he doesn't want to call night time day time and is willing to quit because someone wants him to more power to him.

The unkindness isn't his for omission; the unkindness is theirs for persecution. It always startles me that people who claim to be doing things in the name of not hurting someone's feelings can be so cruel to someone who doesn't share their beliefs.

It’s a teacher’s job to teach. If a child is trans, a teacher should respect their gender identity, and not bully or endanger that child by calling them by the wrong name or pronoun, especially in front of other students. A teacher who cannot respect a child’s name and pronoun shouldn’t be teaching.
