Just wanted to make a follow up post:

My family and I very much enjoyed our time in South Bend! We stayed one night at an Airbnb just SE of ND's campus off of Twyckenham. It was a quiet and leafy neighborhood and was a very pleasant place to stay.

The first thing we did after settling into the house was to drive over to campus, park, and walk around. It was a bit warm by local standards, but we're from Alabama so we can handle some heat. We were lucky enough to walk past the football team's practice facility while practice was going on, and they had the sliding garage door open, so we were able to stand in the doorway and watch for a while. That was a great experience as my family and I are all big football fans!

What a beautiful campus! We got to walk around the stadium, see "Touchdown Jesus", get some photos of the Golden Dome, and go inside the stunning Basilica. The landscaping was manicured perfectly, and seemingly everything was green and in bloom!

By then, it was supper time. A cousin of mine who lives in the Midwest is fairly familiar with South Bend, and he recommended Fiddler's Hearth to us. We took him up on it, and were not disappointed. It's an Irish-themed pub-style restaurant located downtown.

The weird thing is that it was around 9:00 pm by the time we finished dinner and left the restaurant to head back to the house, but it was still bright daylight! As we were pulling into our Airbnb after 9:00, a neighbor was out doing yard work! That was very strange to experience daylight at that late hour.

To sum up: we had a great time in South Bend, Notre Dame is a gorgeous and unique place, and we look forward to our next visit!

I'm going to share some photos in my next post...
