If you can't affprd rental properties, there's not much recourse. If you buy = yeah maybe the cost will be lower - but now you're paying property tax that as renter you would not be doing directly. If you don't like the neighbors or the school district you're in you can't pick up the home and move it. There are many pitfalls to moving to other states, that maybe staying put and fighting for yourself and your family might be a better choice. Those tyranical pols got into office because of voter apathy = people didn't note. Just my opinion.

Did I say I couldn't afford rentals? No. I've seen several, paid app fees, and they get rented to someone else.
Staying put doesn't help fight for myself. I'll keep looking.
