Months ago, Baton Rouge-based Venyu Solutions announced they are locating a new data center in the former McRae's building on Meadowbrook Rd. Tomorrow, Mayor Yarber and Governor Bryant, along with company officials, will reveal the details. UMC officials will also be there, since they will lease a new building that will be built on the site for their telehealth center.

Data center planned for old McRae's - Business Blog

More great news for Jackson, and I hope this will lead to a little bit of redevelopment for that part of Jackson. Not that it really needs much.

BTW, it's good to see the mayor and governor get together on good things like this. While I'm not a Bryant supporter, I like it. I get the feeling that he and Yarber will collaborate a lot, should Bryant get reelected.

Every new business or expansion has a ground breaking where the governor comes in and meets with the local politicians and the business leader. Why would you expect more or less collaboration? Not to mention this was probably in the planning stage before Yarber was sworn in.

madison2013, I think it's important because Yarber has commented on having at least one discussion with the Governor about Jackson's progress. Also, while I do not have the interview on me, Yarber mentioned that discussions between the city and state government were unprecedented before his administration. While he of course will speak favorably of his own administration, I don't find it difficult that the Melton and Johnson administrations, at least, would not be the most open or communicative to the state. I think the more the governor or state officials are in front of Yarber, the more he can make his case that the city is on the rise This could also encourage state officials to be more receptive to policies benefiting Jackson.

While that doesn't necessarily speak on collaboration, if state officials at least have a favorable opinion of the mayor, it could help Jackson through policies, development, funding, etc.

This reeks of desperation but I guess you have to be positive about something.

This is great for meadow Brook. It has had a good bit of development probably enough to spur even more growth for the area...

Local and state leaders talking reeks of desperation? This should've been happening all along.
