False words of encouragement won't help you either.

Are you also aware due to Trump's trade war that financial institutions have pumped the breaks on hiring for now?

Step outside of yourself for a moment and recognize the macro trends and the direction of the tide.

I would have moved on when they called me to schedule a 3rd interview.

If a company can't make a hiring decision after 2 interviews, you can imagine what it would be like to work there. This sounds like the kind of place that is looking for the "purple squirrel" candidate, has incredibly unreasonable expectations of its staff, and constantly complains about "having a hard time finding good employees" because they are impossible to please.

The waiting should not be killing you.
Don't get emotionally attached to any job application.

The job hunt is a numbers game. Apply, move on. Pretend you're Ariana and "thank you, next!"

On the 4th interview I would have asked politely and bluntly what it is that they are looking for to fill the position and what qualities, experience etc they are concerned about regarding YOU being offered the job. Do not accept a 5th interview.
