I've always wanted to be a bartender. I would quit my job in a heartbeat if I could work as a bartender 5-6 days a week. I know bartenders get paid minimum, but I'd get good tips. Everyone would tip me. I'd leave the bar with at least $100 nightly. I'd discipline myself too. Maybe twice a week I'd sit on the other side and drink, but otherwise not everyday. I'd be strict but fun. I'd never serve people if they got too inebriated, and I would have a 2 shot limit. I'd have a blast. I work in a corporate call center and just put up with it, but I would not give it a second thought if someone offered me a bar position.

If this means you're over 30 and have never done it before it won't be easy to break in.
Most will start as bar backs (at 18) or waiters who later get a promotion.
But sure... go for it anyway. The skills will always have an application
and can serve well as a 'get by' job to cover the rent if/when you're looking for a new day job.
Bartending is work, and a good bartender at a good place works hard. Professional bartenders get fired for drinking on the job, so you would have a zero shot limit at a lot of places. Try to get a job as a part time bar back on your days off and see what happens.

Reading your response I realized that OP's ststement about a 2 shot limit is a little unclear...I read it to mean that s/he would limit customers to two shots since it was in the same sentence discussing not serving inebriated patrons. If the reference was to the OP, I agree it should be zero.
Bartending always looked like very hard work to me, at least if you are doing it right. Good luck - obviously some people enjoy it!
I love watching a good bartender at work. Quick, efficient, and able to track who's got what going to where.
