I don't remember ever having to do 2 interviews for a job & I have one scheduled for Monday morning. In the 1st interview on Wednesday, they told me they were picking the top 2-3 candidates for a 2nd interview. What more do they ask? I believe I am meeting with the manager who would most likely be my boss. I guess getting the interview is a good sign, but I'm not sure completely if I want the job.
I already have a job lined up but it doesn't start until 7/28. It is more entry-level but I have may more options to move up in the company. I don't know for sure if that'd be the case with the company I'm doing the 2nd interview with.
I've never had options before & who knows if I'll even make it past the '2nd round' on Monday, but if I do, then I'll need to be prepared to make a choice. I know I have to make the choice that's right for me, but it's so hard to know if you'll like a job or even a company until you're actually there & by then it may be too late. It's too bad you can't take a 'trial run' when it comes to jobs-lol--wouldn't that be fun!
Has anyone ever been in this position before & have had to choose between 2 places?? I don't even have the 2nd offer yet, but just in the case that I do I was wondering what to do.
And what do they ask in the 2nd interview that they didn't already ask in the 1st? Any particular questions I should be asking this time to get a better feel for the place that I may not have already asked?
2nd interviews are pretty common and it means they have narrowed the candidates down to a select few. They really aren't much different from your 1st interview (pre-screening interview) except it usually involves the hiring manager and/or other senior level interviewers. The questions are similar but you may find more scenario based or behaviorial based questions (i.e. Tell me about a time when you had to make a quick decision vs. Tell me about yourself). Also, since it's the second interview they are more likely to tell you more about the job, company, and associated benefits/perks. Good luck. It's nice to have options.
From my experience the 2nd interviews are with the actual people you will be working with, rather than HR, and they are looking for a personality match at that point.
It depends on the company, the size, how they structure the interviews etc. The 2nd interview could just be a perfunctory meet and greet with some senior level people as a final double check before hiring you OR you could still be competing against other candidates & it could even be MORE intense. Just prepare like you would for a job you seriously want & don't worry about having to decide until that is a problem. Try to sell yourself & gather mental notes in your mind re: possible questions about the company/job in case you get an offer.
And then cross the bridge of deciding if that becomes an actual problem.
