There is no way for the government to determine how many open jobs are available at any given time. One, most job openings are never advertised. Two, many jobs are consulting or temporary, Three, many jobs are off the books, and finally four, there is no huge database of everyone hired and fired every day. Our economy is to fast moving.
In all honesty that's not nearly as many as I would have guessed on average.
Yeah, I would never imagine that there would be LESS than 5 people applying for one job... although that might be because i live in Chicago, I don't know.
I applied for a job in January - when I interviewed the hiring manager mentioned that they had received over 400 resumes in response to their posting. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten the job, especially since it's working out great!
Who cares? Even If it's 20 candidates for each job you still bring your A game and not care about that.
For someone who had to interview 100 times and got only two job offers and was begging for information every two minutes you sure do think your the bee's knees.
